My first stop was the northern region of Musanze, which sits in the shadows of the volcanoes that separate Rwanda from Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I felt at ease the moment I set my bag down at Red Rocksa guest house just outside Musanze town, not only because of the incredible scenery around me—think Jurassic Park without the dinosaurs—but because of the incredible hospitality that welcomed me as I arrived to depict Rwanda in pictures.
